BB2016 Dice (and other purchases) ...

July saw a bunch of releases / re-stocking of the GW site, as well as a Made-to-Order which had some models I've wanted for a long time ... which created a bit of a dent in the old wallet ...

New Stuff! Mmmmm ... shiny!
All will be covered in time, but today I'm focussing on the new dice.  With the latest releases we are now have 8 different sets ...
6's and Skulls!
From left to right:
  • Human Dice - BB2016 Box Set
  • Orc Dice - BB2016 Box Set
  • Skaven Dice - "Skavenblight Scramblers" Set (First release)
  • Dwarf Dice - "Dwarf Giants" Set
  • Goblin Dice - "Goblin Team" Set
  • Skaven Dice - "Skaven Team" Set (Second Release)
  • Human Dice - "Reikland Reavers" Set
  • Orc Dice - "The Gouged Eye" Set
7 Dice to a set - 3 Block Dice, 2 D6's, 1 D8, 1 D16
Overall I'm 50:50 on the new dice.  The D6's are certainly the highlights of each set, the symbols are cool and they tend to be easy to read.  The Block Dice are nice too, but I find the "Both-Down" symbol not clear enough.  Which tends to be compounded by some of the sets (specifically the Skaven sets & the Reikland Reavers) being hard to read in dark light (which when I play most of my games in the pub is always an issue).  The D8 & the D16 in each pack is a nice touch too.
White balance is fun to play with!
However, for those of us who remember older versions of the game, I do have an observation.  In the 3rd Ed Box Set, I never once picked up D6's when wanting Block dice or vice versa.  As they were different sizes!  With the newer dice, they're the same size, and I seem to roll incorrect dice a few times a game!  So I kinda wish they'd made the D6's and Block dice different sizes.  A small issue I know, but irritating none-the-less.
All in all however, I like them.  Next time - part 2 of the Ogres ...
- Bsking
Note - I got the dice from the 1st run of Skaven dice as well as the 2nd run - but the Dwarf dice I only got the 2nd Run. If anyone knows if there are any differences between the two runs of Dwarf dice, let me know!

Ogre Team ... part 1

So first real post ... Hoping to play an Ogre team for our next league season.  Put some base-coats on these players for a tournament a few years ago, but now hopefully can get them to a stage of completeness for the season ahead! Stand up straight lads ... look at the camera and smile! The obligatory team photo ... currently working on 6 Ogres and 8 Snotlings. The figures are the 1st & 2nd Ed Ogres & Snotlings picked up over time from eBay (hence the lack of spikes on #01 - he arrived like that!).  I have one more of the actual 'Blood Bowl Snotlings' taking a paint-stripper bath before he joins the fold, so I need one more to bring me up to a 16 man roster. Slightly prettier than their team-mates ... but not much No figures are totally complete yet, but these guy have benefited so far from re-visiting.  The snotlings are done apart from varnishing and basing.  The ogre still has a bit of painting to finish before I'll call him done. ...

Ogre Team … part 2

Thoughts on painting this team since last time: I love painting snotlings.  So much in fact that I've finished all the ones shown last time Comparably I'm not so keen on painting Ogres … they take forever!  That combined with my short attention span means that the team currently looks like this ... {Picture of finished team members} The new season starts the 5th of September .   Ogres will be my 17th of 24 teams played in the league setting. In the past  I've used participation in a season as a reason to paint a previously un-painted team.  So even having a team at this level of "paintedness" may be a record for me! Everybody in the league starts with a rookie team.  It's  a 10 game season, followed by a post-season of quarter finals onwards (if I can qualify … which with Ogres is unlikely!). Not sure of which starting roster to go for:  3 Ogres (140K x 3), 9 Snotlings (20K...

Opening Gambit ...

Never done a blog before, don't really know where to begin ... I intend to use this blog to record as much Blood Bowl related shenanigans as I can, for as long as I can be bothered to.  Including but not limited to: Modelling and painting, Tournaments, League play, Online play, Reviews, Other random musings (probably Blood Bowl related). And I will attempt to post at least once every 14 days ... whether there's something interesting to report or not!  I'll even try and incorporate the occasional photo. Simples really.  Now let's see if I can do it ...
